What do you think is compelling about your image?  Make sure that stands out, that it is the obvious focal point.  Crop in but not too close as there should be room particularly in the direction the subject is facing.  Don't have a sliver of something at the base, nor should there be an empty middle section.  But don't have too much in the image either as that can be busy and distracting. Flat water and plain blue sky should be minimized.  Lighting is key, avoid harsh midday sun.  Ideally atmospheric conditions should add to the mood of the image.
