Our second open digital competition of the season was judged by Steven Yahr. Steven said if you want to succeed in a competition you need to think like a judge. He provided twelve elements that judges look for (in order of priority): Impact, Creativity, Technical Excellence, Composition, Lighting, Style, Presentation, Center of Interest, Subject Matter, Color Balance, Technique, and Story Telling. A good Title is the unstated 13th element in that it can draw a judge's attention to what the photographer saw in the image. He also suggested editing your work in a darkened room as that is how it is normally presented during a competition.
