Photo competition theme survey for the 2015-2016 season

As we are getting close to the end of the season, we are already getting ready for next season.

To determine which themes we will be using for our competitions, we have set up a survey. You select three themes and the top themes will be selected for next season.

Here's an overview of the themes you can choose from:

  • Negative space
Negative space is the concept of the shape the 'nothing' around objects makes. Good use of negative space can unify an image, while poor use of negative space can unbalance an otherwise pleasing image. Extraneous elements which interrupt the negative space can be avoided in camera, or cropped out later.
  • Food
Photograph prepared food or the preparation of food.
  • Portraits
Photograph one person that displays the expression, personality, and mood of the subject. The focus of the photograph shall be the person's face, although the entire body and the background or context may be included.
  • Chill
Show us your definition of chill.
  • Zen Photography
Make an image that whispers serenity, simplicity, harmony. Make an image as silent as can be.
  • Everyday objects
Take a common, everyday object that most anybody would recognize and use it as the focal point of an interesting photographic composition.
  • The Old and the New
This is your chance to be really clever. Old things with new things. I’ll say no more.
  • An unusual Point Of View
Share a shot that reveals a new and different POV. You can take a picture of a familiar subject in a fresh way.
  • Crowds
Show us some fun or interesting photos of crowds. We want crowds of people, animals or inanimate objects. The bigger the crowd, the better!
  • Play
Create a photo that somehow communicates the concept of "play".
  • Shallow DOF
Shallow depth of field is often used to isolate a subject from its surrounding environment or to make it stand out. Find a creative use of a shallow depth of field for this challenge.
  • The four elements
Create an photo representing your choice of Earth, Air, Fire, and/or Water.
  • Headlines
Take your best shot at capturing a photograph that might appear on the front page of a newspaper. The title of your photograph should be the title of the headline in the newspaper.
  • My special place
Show us your special place, from your recliner to your favorite vacation spot.

The survey closes on Sunday, May 31, 11:45 PM. While the survey is open you can change your mind, come back and select different themes. All entries are anonymous. All entries are anonymous.
