Competitions
RPS holds monthly competition meetings on the second Thursday of each month from September to May (except December) at the East Brusnswick Public Library. Please check the When we meet page for the exact dates as some dates vary to accommodate public holidays and availability of the meeting room at the library.
Only paid up members are eligible to enter the monthly competitions.
Separate competitions are conducted for Color Prints, B&W Prints, Color Digital and B&W Digital. Within each of these four categories there are three skill levels; Beginner, Advanced and Salon. Therefore, 12 individual competitions are judged each night. A different guest judge is invited each night to score the images and provide comments and suggestions on each image. RPS generally follows the New Jersey Federation of Camera Clubs standards for scoring with scores ranging from 5 to 9. Only images that receive a score of 7 or better can be considered for an award. Please refer to the Rules page for complete details of the competition rules.
The Rules page lists the complete rules for the Print and Digital competitions. However, here are a few of the key things to keep in mind when submitting prints and digital images for competition.
Print Competitions
Prints must be mounted on a stiff backing material such as mat board or foamcore. Matting is optional. If you choose to submit matted prints, please make sure the mats are securely fastened to the back board so they do not come apart during the competition. Prints with exposed adhesive will not be accepted. Framed prints are not permitted.
- Prints must have a completed RPS print competition sticker affixed to the back of the print in the top right corner.
- Members must pre-register (sign in) AND upload a digital image their prints on this web site no later than 6:00 pm on the day before the competition. Sign in is no longer allowed at the door.
- Members must submit their pre-registered prints at the check-in desk no later than 7:15 pm on the night of the competition. Blank competition stickers are available at the check-in desk. The digital version you uploaded will be used only to project on the screen during the judging. It is not used by the judge for scoring. The projected images is soley for the convenience of the audience to allow them to see a larger version of the print that the judge is reviewing.
Digital Competitions
- Digital images are uploaded to the club web site prior to the competition night. Members must register, on the club web site, for a digital competitions account before digital images can be uploaded.
